As I traveled to the grocery store today for the third time in the last 3 weeks, I began to ask myself: why has it taken a crisis for us to simply slow down and spend time with God, ourselves and the people we love (for real)? Why is the threat of an enforced quarantine driving us to purchase food (instead of going to a restaurant), pulling out board games (instead of playing games on our electronic devices), focusing on hygiene (that we should have been doing all along) and planning how the next six weeks may play out for our family and friends? Why has it taken a global pandemic like the coronavirus (COVID-19) to force us to remember to take care of ourselves?
Why is the risk of coming in contact with someone, the very thing that is causing us to check on the people we profess to care about? This disease, according to the CDC is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. So how can we protect ourselves? We can avoid close contact with anybody who is sick. We can wash our hands often with warm soap and water for at least 20 seconds. We can stay home if we are feeling sick ourselves. We can COVER OUR COUGH OR SNEEZE with a tissue and then throw that tissue in the garbage. We can get tested (should there be enough tests), if we suspect we may be infected. And above all else…trust God to be the healer that has been promised to us!!!
Yes, God is the healer of ALL diseases. In addition to this promise, God gives us wisdom to listen to the professionals, like doctors and those from the Center for Disease Control ~ because clearly, the government is not clear on anything concerning this virus. Use wisdom in your moving about and your engagement with others. Do not assume that it is fair to take the risk of infecting others or being infected. If this virus lies dormant for at least two weeks, NONE OF US ARE CERTAIN about anything, except the Lord cares about us!!! Please be safe, be wise, and use this time to connect over the phone or electronically with the people you love. If you need to reach out to others, please use that expensive phone you have or make social media a social networking tool. Take this time to be still and know that God is God, and that God has all of this under control. Cast all of your cares on Him and rest on the assurance that God wants all of us to be in good health.
Take good care of you!
